Pitt Administration

What's online?

This collection documents the history of the university through a variety of records produced, authorized or required by the school’s administration, beginning with the charters that founded the Pittsburgh Academy and Western University of Pennsylvania. These were both scanned courtesy of Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, Pennsylvania State Archives.

Chancellor’s Reports, which focused on academics, athletics, capital projects and enrollment, were provided annually or biennially and provide a summary of the status of the university. Occasionally these reports revealed the University’s role or response to external events in the country and the world, including the great influenza epidemic of 1918, World War I, and the Great Depression. This collection includes Chancellor’s Reports for the following years: 1893-1894, 1897, 1899-1900, 1902, 1904-1912, 1915-1919, 1921-1922, 1924, 1926, 1930, 1932, 1934, 1936, and 1938.
